WHC is pleased to share that planning consent has been granted on a project where we provided the heritage support in Clavering.
The proposal was for the construction of a purpose-built structure to house padel ball courts and associated facilities. A pre-app was submitted to the council to gauge their stance on the proposal. The response was mixed and did raise some concerns which were addressed in the full application. Concerns included the scale of the building, however, the sport has specific requirements that have to be met in order to comply with its regulations.
WHC's input included drafting the supporting Heritage Impact Assessment. The proposal site was once part of an historic farmstead that includes an Non-Designated Hertiage Asset- a red brick barn that formed part of the wider farm complex. In addition, there are four grade II listed buildings, an Historic Environment Record and it sits within a conservation area.
The proposal sought to provide several public benefits including a local indoor facility for the sport, economic, wellbeing and fitness benefits, social interaction and community benefits, as well as additional tree and vegetation planting to enhance the site.
